A handshake is the standard greeting in business dealings with women usually extending their hand first. Greet every member of a group individually and make eye contact when shaking hands. Do the same when departing.
If you are better acquaintances, an embrace or a pat on the elbow may accompany the greeting. Males may even greet using the abrazo, a combination of a hug, backslap, and firm handshake. Women may give each other an “air kiss” on the cheek.
Keep in mind that Mexicans tend to stand at a closer distance to the person they are addressing as well as exchange touches such as a pat on the forearm or shoulder. Backing away may seem discourteous.
If you are considering purchasing land in Mexico it’s very important to get proper representation.
