Biospheres, interior nature preserves, and coastal areas all are factors which serve to enhance the quality of life of an area and can even be the determinant in a selection of property for a foreign buyer, particularly if it is to be a vacation home. The Mexican government currently has plans to preserve unique environments, archeological sites, and ecological treasures. There are eight million hectares of protected land which currently preserves areas such as national parks, marine parks, biosphere reserves, and the like. Because protecting the environment is seen as enhancing both the value of the property as well as a developer’s reputation, private developers are now including preservations of natural habitats in their development plans. Ecotourism has also become popular.
